
The don’t make ‘em like they used to. These stoic stone slabs do not look to have moved an inch in 200 years. I like the way they stand to attention, lined up, unmoved as the centuries steadily turn.
For reasons unknown, no further graves were added after these, the line finishing short. Perhaps the money ran out, maybe the fashion for huge edifices like these changed direction, or quite possibly the Victorian church guardians moved their burials to another quiet corner of this large churchyard?
Field Marshal Montgomery rests elsewhere within this place, tucked well away from these sturdy armstrongs.
