Richmond, Surrey

Knocked up between the wars with an inspired move by rail architect James Robb Scott to use black granite on the lower third of this urban structure.

A grand edifice welcomes all comings and goings, to me this makes for a vision that brings home the joy of travel.

I stood there on the concourse floor one Friday morning, just after the rush had fired through, a few precious minutes to soak up the beauty of this creation. When the place is this quiet it is so much easier to gently look up and see just what JRS visioned when he first put pencil to paper.

Richmond Station

The old boy at the information desk attempting to set up his trestle, the flower seller idly flicking through a newspaper, the ticket office staff staring out with a rare moment to spare, the stand alone boyfriend nervously staring at his phone, a taxi driver peering left and right for their next fare. All quiet at Richmond station, before the fanfare of Friday afternoon.
